HAIKU
Starry sky, red moon
Twinkling lights shine down on me
Cool breeze in my hair
Egg collection time
But she won't get off her nest!
I will come back later.
Little baby goat
Please come sit and play with me
Let me pet your head.
Cold winter night comes
Trudging through snow to feed goats
Their warm noses greet me.
Writing makes me free
Imagination, real life
It doesn't matter.

A Goat and His Girl
By: Valerie Parker
Can I follow you?
You run through the deep snow
And I follow faithfully
Our coats are laced with snowflakes
We do not care that we are cold
A rub is all that is required
To be my friend.
Can I hop up there?
I love high places!
You push the snow off the bench
And I jump right up
And sit down next to you
My little hooves square on your lap
The wind blows and howls
But we do not notice.
My friend and I
Are in our special place.
And all is right in the world
For a moment.

HAIKU
Cloudy evening sky
Owl glides over high treetops
Rain is setting in
Young girl sits alone
in a field of red poppies
She finds peace within
A quiet forest
Leaves scattered on the cold ground
Winter is coming.
Cold winter winds blow
Sleds tucked, we run for indoors
We sip hot cocoa

Waiting for Snow
By: Hannah Parker
Pink clouds hovering
Above our house.
Is it s sign?
“Yes!” I finally decide out loud.
It surely means that snow
is on its way!
“What does it feel like outside?”
I wonder
I open a window.
My arms works very hard
to shut it again.
Too late
I am already cold!
The goats are screaming
to be fed.
“I’m coming!” I shout.
The wind blows into my face
I can hardly walk.
Something lands on my forehead
Why is it colder than rain?
A tiny seed of hope forms
deep in my belly.
Snows starts coming down
As I scream with joy.
Better enjoy it
While I can! :-)
