Natural Laundry Soap? Soap Nuts!
What are soap nuts? They are a very simple, earth friendly laundry detergent and cleaner! It is hard to imagine how these little berries from the Himalayas naturally produce a soap, but they do! And they do one amazing job of cleaning stains and odors too. They also smell very nice when they are in the washing machine, as they start to break down...but they don't leave a smell on the clothes at all.
They are really easy to use, and extremely cost effective too. You simply place 5 nuts in a provided natural, drawstring bag and toss it in! We bought a box of small soap nuts for $10 that will clean 100 loads of laundry! A box for 360 loads costs even less per load at $30. As they decompose, you simply toss them in your compost or garden and start with new ones. There are no huge, plastic bottles to recycle, no mess at all! We use them in conjunction with wool balls for the dryer, and everything dries faster now. All of our laundry comes out clean and VERY soft, and we know exactly what is touching our family's skin now! We get ours from here, and have been very happy: https://econutssoap.com/what-are-soap-nuts/

Bye Bye Silver Polish!
Have you ever heard the saying "if you can't eat it, don't let it touch your skin"? Your skin is your largest organ, and anything that comes into contact with your skin gets directly absorbed into your body. I came upon this new natural treatment when my mother in law visited us for the holidays. She had given my daughter a bunch of sterling silver necklaces over the years, and I neglected to keep them polished properly (which was discovered by my MIL of course! Oops!) Well, I was not about to use the standard silver polishes which contain ammonia and petroleum ingredients that are known to be toxic. So, I tried a few online suggestions that did not work UNTIL I grabbed some old toothpaste that got pushed into the back of a bathroom drawer and guess what? It works great! See the above "before" and "after" photos of a silver cup! We used Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Whitening Plus. Why on earth would anyone use the toxic stuff when you can use toothpaste that you already have at home?
